Announcement - Practice Directions Nos. 8A & 11

Two new Practice Directions come into effect on 27th June 2003.

Practice Direction No. 8A - Major Industrial Cases

    This Practice Direction replaces Practice Direction No. 8 .
    The purposes of Practice Direction No. 8A are

    (a) to enable prompt and timely notice to be provided to the Commission of the likelihood of the commencement of a major industrial case and thereby to ensure, as far as practicable, the effective use of the Commission's resources in respect of such cases

    (b) to emphasise the importance of prompt and timely notice being provided to the Commission of the likelihood of the commencement of a major industrial case and that failure to give notice of a matter which is or may be a major industrial case in terms of the Practice Direction may, and is likely to, affect the priority that the Commission is able to afford to the matter.

Practice Direction No. 11 - Applications pursuant to s.84 (Unfair Dismissals )
    The purpose of Practice Direction No. 11 is:

    to facilitate the resolution of unfair dismissal matters before the Commission by ensuring that such proceedings are conducted before the Commission in an efficient and expeditious manner and that practitioners and others who appear before the Commission do all they can to facilitate the just, quick and cost effective disposal of unfair dismissal proceedings before the Commission.
