Announcement - Merchant surcharge to apply to credit card transactions

14 February 2013

As of 1 March 2013 a Merchant surcharge will apply to credit card transactions at the IRC.

Visa & MasterCard 0.4%
Amex 1.4%
Diners 1.5%

Merchant interchange fees are incurred by government agencies and State Owned Corporations (SOCs) when they accept credit card payments from the public or customers.

NSW Government requires all agencies to recoup these fees through surcharging for payments accepted using debit or credit cards issued by card schemes such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners.

Surcharge does not apply to payments accepted using ATM cards issued by banks and other deposit taking institutions.
