Announcement - Judge of Industrial Court Appointed to Supreme Court

2 July 2009

Justice Monika Schmidt, who was sworn in as a Judge of the Industrial Court and a Deputy President of the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW on 22 July 1993, has been appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of NSW.
Justice Schmidt will be sworn in at a private ceremony on Monday, 27 July 2009.

The President of the Commission, Justice Roger Boland, on learning of Justice Schmidt's appointment to the Supreme Court, said:

"In the period of 16 years that her Honour has held an appointment at this Court she has brought her considerable intellect, passion for fair play, extraordinary work ethic and expertise in industrial, commercial and criminal law to bear in all of the matters to come before her, including cases of lasting significance to the jurisprudence of the Commission and the Court.

The Commission and the Court will miss those qualities of her Honour together with her collegiate spirit, all of which will serve her in good stead at the Supreme Court.

On behalf of her fellow Members and the wider Commission, I congratulate her Honour on her appointment and wish her and her family the best for the future."
