Announcement - Retirement of Justice Frank Marks

29 May 2012

The Honourable Justice Frank Marks has announced his retirement after nearly 20 years as a member of the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales.

Justice Marks was appointed on 15 February 1993 and had fully intended to remain in office until 9 December 2012, when he would have reached the statutory retirement age. However, circumstances have arisen that left his Honour with no choice but to resign effective from 30 June 2012. His Honour has expressed his sincere regret should there be any inconvenience for any party because of his unanticipated early departure.

Justice Marks is proceeding on a period of planned overseas leave prior to and including the date of his retirement. In that circumstance it will not be possible to conduct the traditional swearing out ceremony. However, the President, Justice Boland, has determined that a farewell ceremony will be held in recognition of his Honour's long and valuable service.

The ceremony will take place at 9.30 am on Friday 6 July 2012 in Court Room 4.1. The public, parliamentarians, members of the judiciary, the legal profession and the public service, former colleagues and representatives of employee and employer organisations are all cordially invited. Morning tea will follow.
